Here are a few of the reasons most professional pet sitters will not offer every-other-day ("EOD") services.. These are complied from experienced, mature business owners.  Most related incidences about cats...and HOMES:

~ "...can get sick or injured....a Urinary Tract Infection can kill a cat in a day"

~ "...to protect the house....if someone left a tap on, or if the water tank started leaking. Other professional pet sitters have told me of arriving at a home where the stove was left on, one time the example was a GAS stove! Or an element turned on by a button the cat stepped on."

~ "cats can lock themselves in a room by accident...to go 48 hours without food and water could be a disaster."

~ " I just heard a new one today about a pet sitter going in and finding a stove-top burner that had been accidentally turned on by a cat. She was even doing once-a-day visits, so just imagine what could have happened if she had been doing every-other-day visits."

~ "One time, one of her cats slimed a hallway wall, because
he was suffering from separation anxiety and had a bad case of
diarrhea. Because I didn't get to it till a day later, the wall was
stained and had to be painted. Another time, one of the cats knocked
over their one gallon water jug, which spilled out all over a wood
floor. It was still wet in places when I arrived for my pet sit. I
don't know exactly when the jug had been knocked over, but it was
long enough for the wood floor to become stained. These things more
than likely could have been prevented, or at least lessened if I'd
been visiting daily."

~ "Got to a visit tonight for a once a day cat. Normally she comes
right out and wants to visit. I called, but she didn't come. Very
odd. So, I went looking for her. She had gotten herself trapped
inside mom's duvet cover and couldn't get out. She was hanging off
the side of the bed in her little 'cocoon'...poor girl was SO happy
to see me. I don't think she had been in there very long but had it
been an EOD things could have been ugly."

~ "I had a cat sit this weekend, yesterday and today. All was well yesterday, but when I went in today the first thing that struck me was that there was no heat. Then I heard water rushing. Not a good sign. I poked my head down cellar and saw water, lots of water. I called the fire department. They came and shut off the water. They, in turn, called the city department of environmental management to come pump out the cellar. There was about 2 feet of water in the cellar. This was all within the 24 hour period. I don't want to think what would have happened if it had gone on any longer."

~ "...one cat turned on the kitchen faucet all by himself and I walked in to find water pouring down the sink (luckily not out of the sink!).

Another cat got his jaw stuck in his collar and couldn't eat, luckily he was fine. I think cats get into more trouble while their owners are gone than dogs do!"

And one from my own experience with my cat...we were going away for an overnight and not far from home realized we'd forgotten something
and turned back.  In those few minutes, the cat had got into an unfinished closet in the basement and up into the floorboards!  When I went into the house, she was near an air exchange vent wailing away!  I called her to the vent which was in the ceiling of the room and had to reach in and drag her out since it was too high for her to jump out of.  Perhaps she could have found her way back...perhaps. And it could have been much nastier if we'd been gone a couple of days or longer!
